Why brick

Brick is a very versatile material, it can have different texture, can make the building look in very different ways. It also works well with nature, with sky and sun, with different weather and light conditions. It is also very plastic, and has its character. This all makes it a great material to use, with which an architect can express ideas very emotionally and vividly.

Sergey Skuratov says:

It is my favourite construction material. I make of it facades, roofing, elements of landscaping, paving.

Theodora House, named after the Carlsberg founder’s daughter, is located right beside the famous Elephants Gate and adapted in materials and scale to its historic surroundings.

This is not a new idea, but it has come to my head when I have come to mono-materiality and sculpturity.

  • #1 material to express genius loci.
  • material creating multiple visual, plastic and tactile sensations.
  • material that personalizes individuality and art.
  • material that provides an entire gamma, a complete color range.
  • a material durable to snow, rain and wind.
  • material, not subject to time: as any noble material, able to age beautifully, it only becomes more and more expensive and expressive during time.

What do we imply when we say — brick house?

  • it is noble
  • tactile appealing, want to feel it with hands
  • has thorough details
  • one brick module for the whole facade
  • variety of shades, factors and surface types inside one type
