Concept

A client with a passion for Scandinavia, who wants to build ecological and with a pure contemporary style, is a dream for every architect. Typical Swedish elements, such as material, archetype, plan organization, … or studied in detail and given a Belgian twist.

Description

The house is build with passive standard. More than isolation, zero-energy or ecological footprint, this project uses typical architectural elements to result in a low-energy house. The unfavourable orientation is solved. The house is placed as deep as possible on the site. This gives an open space at the street site, protected by a brick shelter. The second floor cantilevers the terrace and deep window-frames make logical sunscreens.

Interior

Bricks

The “Blue Velvet” brick, is deliberately chosen. The reddish brick refers to the Northern red wooden houses, and is as rough it could grow out of the Flemish clay. The small shelter covering the terrace is build as a huge claustra. The openings are well chosen, the dimensions square and rectangle are the exact proportions of the Swedish flag … The reddish brick, the accentuated window-frames and the cantilever are typical Swedish elements, given a Belgian touch. It is impossible to copy the Scandinavian landscape, but you can bring elements of Sweden to Belgium. Like a Belgian is born with a brick in their stomach, every Swede is born with a Volvo, Swedish brick. swedish brickhouse
